I close my eyes
Chains drag across a cold cement floor
A shivering body, stooped back, dull eyes
Traveling along the narrow hallway
Into ever-deepening darkness
Only her footsteps and dragging chains
No other sound, nothing
The surrounding world glitters
Her breath catches in her chest
And her ugly face fills with joy
She dances and laughs and jumps
And doesn't care that she is plain
She is alive, what else matters?
Embracing her future, she runs
Giving off light and energy
Ugliness, loneliness
She shuns them away to the back of her heart
They don't matter anymore.
Darkness grows and growls inside
Chains rattle and prisoners cry
Freezing wind rushes through the halls
And everything is black.
Sobbing, dying on the floor
Everything I hoped to be
But the world said no
And everything is black.
Now I shut the blinds to my soul
My eyes are flat and impenetrable
My misery is hardened, hidden
And everything is black.
I used to think invisibility was a super power
Now I know that it's a plague
A disease carried by lonely people
No one can see us
Nevertheless, we exist in an introverted world
People step on us and leave us in the dust
Because they cannot see us
We are the lonely
We are the invisible.
Black eyes stare into mine
A dark fog surrounds me
Engulfing me, pulling me in
When I look into those eyes
You haunt me in my dreams
You never say a word, just stare
A beautiful nightmare

Racing the Night -for Lucas-
The deep night calls to wolves
And also calls to me
Do you hear the whispers
Shared among the trees
Dark and understanding
Tells me to run away
And race with her till morning
When she must finally lay
I tell her I live in a cage
But I would love to run
Across Imagination's stretch
In dreams it can be done
She agrees and we run fast
Until the light of day
When sadly, nighttime vanishes
'Til we again can play.

Dream Big -for MaliceinMurderland-
All the other fairies taunted her
For she did not have wings
But this girl did not wish for them:
She yearned for greater things
And then one day she met a prince
Who ruled celestial beings
"How will I live with you?" she asked.
"I cannot fly!" she cried, retreating.
"My dearest gem," the prince replied,
"We'll have our wedding here.
It will work, and you shall see."
He kissed her, held her near
The wedding day came soon enough
And to this girl's surprise
He summoned all the stars to earth
To dance for her that night
All the fairies came to watch
Though they were uninvited
The prince saw wonder in their eyes
They gasped at

Inspiration -for Isbrand-
Inspiration, inspiration
Set my heart aflame
Make me burn with raging passion
Creating beauty born from pain
All the past experience
That's led me to this place
And put the sorrow in my eyes
The tear streaks one can trace
Inspiration, inspiration
Teach me to create
A mosaic from my shattered life
A light in this dark place
I'll take my inner candle
And use it to light others
It is the art of poetry
Emotional sensation
It is the language of the heart
Born from inspiration.

Literature
Shattered Ocean of Dreams
I once traversed inside a saddened soul
And saw a stormy ocean made of shattered glass
With colorful ghostly dreams
Shadows of what they used to be
The lightning flashed but no thunder roared
And everything was quiet and cold
The rain came down in delicate drops
And sat in the ocean to ponder the loss
Of something once so beautiful
Now frigid and alone
Because this person was denied warmhearted love
Their life, their soul, was grey.
The shattered glass of memories
Remains unto this day.
She used to play on the swing set and swing as high as she could
Make silly jokes and laugh at them
Measure herself to see if she'd gained an inch
Skip to school with her favorite teddy bear
She was only a girl back then
She drives a car now and pays her own rent
Goes to college and studies hard
Sometimes she still sits on the swing and rocks it slowly
More interested in boys and friends than her favorite teddy bear now
But the world is crashing down on her
And she's only a girl.
